Frequently Asked Questions

Why are you offering this service?

Ron Miller is an entrepreneur by nature. He sees this as an opportunity to build a trusted brand that will provide a needed service to coaches who in turn provide their professional help to clients …and we all make a living doing things we love.

Do you offer this service to only life coaches?

Yes. This is for life coaches only. We can’t build a really strong brand if it’s diluted.

What's magical about the hiring 3 coaches? Do you plan to extend the offer beyond your initial number of coaches?

(3) Coaches will provide sufficient resources to pay for the people and resources that help us grow in a healthy manner. We do not plan to hire further coaches until existing coaches are operating at about 90% capacity, and even then new coaches will be hired one at a time. We want existing coaches to have full practices while also allowing new clients to get an appointment within 10 days.

Is this the whole website (www.firemountaincoach.com)? It's kind of sparse.

You are right, it is sparse. We are in the process of reworking the site and building some background connections. As we hire coaches, we hope to hire some coaches who are fantastic writers too. We look forward to a richly developed site that attracts future visitors.

How does the client scheduling work?

We use scheduling software called “Acuity” (https://www.acuityscheduling.com). It allows coaches to have private open sessions (for clients they have found) and also for clients we provide to choose from any available coach. Once the client selects an appointment, they enter payment information. At 24 hours prior to the appointment, the payment is automatically processed, pushed to our accounting system, and marked as your client. Paychecks are issued every 2 weeks.

What is a W-2 employee? Why is that a big deal?

From the standpoint of the IRS, there are two types of employees: W-2 or 1099. Many Americans are paid as a W-2 employee. That means that at the end of the the tax year, they usually file a Form 1040 and that’s about it.

If someone gets a W-2 form, that means there’s a business operating that has its own set of work and expenses. A legal, compliant business has its own set of business books for accounting, a state and perhaps city sales tax license, tax filings, liability insurance, vendors to pay, etc.

The W-2 employee doesn’t need to worry about any of those things. It doesn’t matter. The business bears the burden of all those things. This drastically simplifies the employee’s life. That’s our goal, to remove those burdens from you.

How do I get paid?

Payroll will issue paychecks each two weeks for all paid sessions you conducted in the previous weeks. Paychecks can be electronically deposited. All taxes are filed and taken care of on your behalf. At the end of the year, you can file a standard Form 1040. No separate business tax forms needed!

What accounting work do I need to do?

How about a nice cup of coffee instead? We provide 100% of the accounting.

If I become a W-2 employee of Fire Mountain Consulting, do I need a separate business or sales tax license?

Kind of, but not really … Since you give us “nexus” (a presence in your location), we will reach out and file the Sales Tax forms in the name of Fire Mountain Consulting, on your behalf. When it’s time to file the sales & use tax forms, we do that too. Legally, the only thing you may need to do is post the sales tax license in your office.

Why do you charge me 9% for social security, unemployment and worker's Compensation?

These are taxes and legal requirements that are paid on your behalf. An employer pays about 7.5% of your income to social security, you pay another 7.5% from your paycheck. We are simply passing both portions along to you, along with unemployment and worker’s compensation insurances.

Do you file all business and sales taxes for me?

We do. We have a CPA and other providers that file all taxes and forms for all purposes. Amazingly, if you coach someone in certain states or across state lines, it may be taxable. We keep track of 12,000 tax jurisdictions to make sure we stay in compliance. … but seriously, enjoy another cup of coffee, we take care of all of it!

Does this include Liability Insurance?

Absolutely. We are fully insured for general business and liability insurance.

Can I coach across state lines?

You sure can. We’ll keep track of that, get any needed sales tax licenses, file and pay the jurisdiction when appropriate … and even charge the client the right amount of sales tax, if it applies.

Do you offer health insurance?

Not today, but when we get about 15 coaches hired, we plan to investigate and offer it as an option. It will be completely optional and probably offered at a percentage of your revenue.

Do I need previous life coaching experience?

Oh yeah. We require coaches to have at least 12 months of experience and who have coached at least 30 separate clients. Coaches need to have at least 5 clients during the average week. We are working to build a very reputable brand that will attract future clients. Hiring “just anyone” would be defeating our goals.

Is the job salaried?

No. Your revenue is 100% dependent on the paid sessions you have. You are paid every two weeks for previous sessions paid by clients you have had. Payment is the full amount of your revenues after we have deducted our fees (23% for all combined expenses).

Will you provide all my clients?

Right now, coaches should bring all of their own clients. Please do not hinge all of your hope depending on us to fill your practice. We will work tirelessly to develop the brand, but we can’t promise anything related to a steady stream of future clients.

Why do you list surveys and forms as a benefit?

Forms allow us an electronic means to provide our “terms of service” to a client. They also explain what a client should expect. This can all be done ahead time to set the stage for a great session.

Clients are also offered the chance to review their coach and sessions. This provides great feedback. The feedback forms can become a source of client testimonials too.

Will I have the chance to talk to other coaches in the organization?

Yes. There will be no barriers between you and other coaches. Although coaches have their own practices, we are also a team. We will all learn a lot from one another.

What if become a Life Coach with Fire Mountain, but change my mind later?

If you don’t feel we provide the value you need, we offer the “Demand Value Guarantee”.

1.) You may opt out at any time, with only 3 days notice.*

2.) If you have worked for us at least four months, we will pay you a refund of up to $3,000. The refund is based on 5% of your gross, lifetime billings with us, but not to exceed $3,000.

*We do ask that you finish up all currently scheduled appointments that have been made within our system. But after notification +72 hours, you are welcome to begin scheduling new appointments in your own system. Please note though, that clients that were brought through you personally are yours to keep. Clients that were provided through Fire Mountain Consulting still belong to Fire Mountain and may not be coached outside of employment with us.
